I NEED HELP PEOPLE I HAVE AN AGGRESSIVE DOG AND A BABY BOY ON THE WAY! DONT WANT TO GET RID OF HIM…. BUT…
Does the Westie know basic commands? If so I have a few suggestions, if not then the owner’s need to restrain the dog in a confined space when there are visitors.
My alpha female attempts to claim my four dogs food bowls when she smells a new bag of kibble. I immediately calmly claim all the bowls from her by standing over each bowl as she attempts to claim it. I do not allow access until she backs off & submits to me. Also, I use body language & a loud gutteral backoff sound, I do not utter a word. By reasserting my dominance & control of food access with calm authority I would never allow my dogs to reach this level of aggression.
“veterinarian are goods!” lol Do you need to teach him reading first?
Once a week?
frig man, we have problems with our dogs and they get two solid walks minimum a day, 2-3 hours if we arent working, 1 hour or so when we are…we must be doing SOMETHING wrong.
somebody help me my puppy is 5 month old german shepherd/shepherd mix mothers a german shepherd my dog is very aggressive towards other dog sometimes he just lets it off when he sees small dog but when he sees big dogs he goes crazy well he doesnt growl and act like hes gonna kill someone he just barks and barks really loud one time a chihuahua chased him and he cried well what i wanna know is what should i do if he starts being aggresive toward other dog i dont know how to introduce him
lack of structure and exercise. its really sad when someone has say a german shepard and they walk it once a week /:
i really wonder how dogs become aggressive. ive got 2 dobermans 2 alsatians and 1 dogo… ive personally trained them(just the sit and wait command).. i walk them every other day. but they have never been aggressive with me during feeding time. and they were never in any obedience school. am i just lucky or what?
my 2 dogs are very well behaved, obedient and gentle. But as soon as they see another dog they seem to switch into different dogs all together, showing what you would call ‘red zone’ aggression. Do you have any tips on how to over come this?
You guys are amazing. I would love to do work like this……I wish more people understood the importance of structure and leadership in a family with dogs. However, if they did…..you guys would probably be out of work! haha
um….were you watching the same video I was?…he had a treat in his hand…when the food guarding stopped (the biting stopped) then the dog was rewarded. I used the same method (though not as bold as the issue wasn’t as bad.) with a pup I took in. Showing the dog that when the hand goes into the bowl cool things happen, no need to be aggressive about it, they’re not taking your food, they’re adding to it….
This isn’t the same thing as the whole “claiming the food” crap some trainers do.
*plays video* oh this dog doesn’t seem so ba- HOLY CRAP!
Youre doing some magnificent work, tell me if you agree however, fear and insecurity is largely or at least partly ( lots of variables) a genetic flaw, many times some old school breeding practices and simply culling weak dogs would help a great deal?
Can you help with a new shelter puppy who is scared of everything? I recently adopted a dog and live downtown in a large apartment building, and she is scared to leave. People scare her. She tries hard not to go in the apartment, but sometimes she can’t help it when there are people everywhere. But she is fine at the dog park, just not in the parking lot. Advice?
Lol the Sheltie was like “Why isn’t he dropping me when I bite him?!?! Hey, this ain’t too bad..”
She seemed big for a sheltie, fluff I guess.
I’m surprised you guys wear such little protection for the Sheltie, sometimes dogs like that will struggle to get down and will turn around and bite your face.
could not dould XD
You guys are so damn cool !!!!
Man I wish I dould come over and work with you
So basically in the dog behavior world in this video I see No commands before food is given, just a food bowl given to the first dog, the human is at eye level with the dog so that starts off the fight or flight behavior, and then a treat for biting?? I don’t understand What exactly the guy with the first dog is trying to do.
wow..the first dog looked friendly until he started chomping on the dude’s hand in less then a second.
notice at :54 the dog literally appears to come out of this aggressive state and looks around as if it had no idea to what was just going on.
Hey, I think your video is great ! Don’t listen to the people on here criticizing. if easier ways have worked for them, then good for them. but some dogs have such deep rooted negative behaviors,a more direct form of training is best. Anyone who says ” id act the same way as the dog with the food bowl” Would you punch everyone who ever taught you life isn’t always fair in the face and keep hitting? if so, have fun in jail! no, you learn to coexist without violence. Do good=Get Good!!
As a trainer , I dont think you should always say “good boy or good girl” especially every 5 seconds . Also giving treats all the time isnt always going to solve the problem. In dog psychology its just going to make them think oh if you’re saying good boy and giving me treats then I will be good but if you dont say it and dont give me treats I will act like I did before. So I think you should work on that.
